Bianca Tomassetti Blog Post #1 (The Movember Campaign)

Prompt #2: One post must talk about how a company is using social media for marketing like the Wheat Thins campaign. There are lots of examples out there - look for them in bus shelters, train stations, radio broadcasts, etc. Describe the use as well as reflect on your impressions. Does this campaign make you more or less likely to purchase the product/service? Why/why not?

The Movember Campaign

This past November launched the Movember Campaign. The Movember Campaign was a campaign designed to raise money for awareness in men's prostate and testicular cancer. During this campaign, men supporting the cause would shave all their facial hair on the 1st of November and would grow a mustache supporting the cause that they would not shave until the last day of the month. Proceeds from this campaign went directly to The Movember Foundation and the foundation itself has raised over $650 million.

The hashtag #MOvember was trending all over social media during the month of November. People who did not recognize or wanted to know more about the hashtag could easily click on it and see pictures and information about what the cause supported. During this push for awareness, it was the foundation's goal to show society that men are dying too young, and we as a nation, need to help raise the life expectancy for men.

Although I am not a man, let alone a man suffering from testicular cancer, this campaign made me want to donate and support those men who were conducting charity for a good cause. To me, it was fun to see men all over the city sporting hilarious and even some unattractive mustaches this past month. It is also great to see that men who do not suffer from this illness want to show their support for men who are ill.
