Thomas Martin - 3D Printers

3D printing has technically been around since the 80's, but in recent years it has made more progress than it ever has. Originally 3D printing was used to create prototype models, but now they are being used to make production ready pieces. Ford is actually currently using 3D printing for test car parts, and saving over $400,000 a month doing so. That figure alone shows just how much potential this product has in the near future. The effect it has on production costs will mean skyrocketing profits for companies that decide to invest in this product. There has also been a surge in the 3D printing of prosthetic limbs, which is just absolutely mind blowing. I can't honestly say that I have ever once thought that printing limbs would be even a remote possibility. These are only a few of many applications of 3D printing because, frankly, there would just be too much to write about. There is no question that 3D printing will play a huge role in our technological futures.

The main way that I have seen this product marketed is through twitter accounts like business insider, but we can be sure that as time goes by we'll only be hearing more and more about 3D printing and how it is being used, how it is advancing, and how it effects the businesses that decide to invest in it. Surely there is a bright future for the 3D printing industry.
